ALL 36 FIRST ROUND PICKS!!!! Disclaimer: I was on pick 28 when John updated the draft file so no... I will not start over.
1. Milano Olimpia: Shaquille O'Neal (C)
This pick is fairly simple to predict based on RCC running around yelling things like "shaqie shaqie." It's pretty safe to say that Milan will have their superstar to go along with a pretty solid young core of Spud, DWill, Riva, and Sheed. Good news for Milan, the position also fits with that core. Let's all hope that the curse of Milan doesnt strike yet again and kill Shaq.
2. Guangdong Southern Tigers: Kevin McHale (PF)
This pick could very well end up being Anthony Davis. It really boils down to whether Seer wants to start making moves toward competing or trying to develop youth again. After trading Zidek, they need a big. McHale is the best one with Shaq out. If Seer can save Arenas the way he saved some youngins in Legends then I think McHale/Arenas is a dirty offensive combo moving forward.
3. Rio de Janeiro Flamengo: Anthony Davis (PF)
Love this pick for Rio as he'll get the leftovers of Seer's pick, neither of which are bad options. I like the idea of developing Davis next to Granger and sending Zubkov away to enjoy his twilight years elsewhere. This team does still have some actual talent on the roster so I could see Rio adding yet another top pick next year if they play their cards right. Davis, Granger, another top 10 pick? Looks like a nice way to rebuild to me.
4. Boston Celtics: Alonzo Mourning (C)
Boston gets the leftovers of the top 4 stud bigs and to be honest, this is my favorite fit of all the picks. Zo is going to be an absolute monster on defense and is definitely NOT a scrub on offense. CP3 and Zo as your first two building blocks? Yes please. Not much else to say considering Boston will have a shot at ANOTHER top 5 pick next year because the rest of their roster is... well... yeah we'll just not talk about that.
5. Taipei Fubon Braves: Damian Lillard (PG)
Sucks to suck bro. Missing out of this top 4 is rough, especially when you now draft a position you already have a log jam at. Luckily, Lillard is going to be leaps and bounds better than what Taipei has in place. But elite status will not come easily for Damian as he will have to develop a lot defensively and with his passing ability. Taipei could surprise everyone here and go Andre Drummond, but I see him more as REAL 2.0, "Oh a PG? Drafted."
6. Guangdong Southern Tigers: Andre Drummond (C)
After selling as high as humanly possible on Zidek, Seer manages to land another top 6 pick and has the opportunity to establish a twin towers moving forward. McHale, who he drafted at #2, will make up for Drummond's short-comings as he develops. McHale at the 4 and Drummond at the 5 has dangerous implications down the line and throws the Tigers into the mix of strong frontcourts in this division.
7. New Orleans Jazz: Draymond Green (PF)
Shafted by a coin toss and lotto, Corey ends up at #7 and takes the very unique Draymond Green. A game that could be all around good, he automatically brings you defense in the post which is something this team has completely forgotten about since sending away Dolph Schayes in Season 1. Corey hates his life, makes the pick, and quits while waiting for Washington to open up again.
8. CSKA Moscow: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (SF)
Moscow is weird and will do weird things that he will later somehow make work. Taking MKG here is likely one of those things. About as raw offensively as a top 10 pick can be, MKG will be a lockdown nearing elite defender from Day 1. His game reminds me of Shawn Marion's minus the offense. Will be a good rebounder, great defense inside and out, and good athleticism for a SF. Adding him to what will likely be a potent offense with Walt and Terry makes this a very fitting pick.
9. Washington Generals: Latrell Spreewell (SF)
I like the idea of taking Spree here. He bring a pretty well rounded game and already contributes on defense. He has great athleticism for a SF and while he isn't going to collect 8-9rpg, he will still put up some points and handle the ball well. Developing a 3PS will be huge for Spree to become a top level talent at some point but walking into the season with Hondo/Spree/Bogut seems like its a PG and a good TC away from challenging for the 8th seed.
10. REAL Madrid: Kiki Vandeweghe (SF)
This is a tricky pick. I'm not a fan of Vonleh as a starting C which makes me look at JBC and Ruhland but I think REAL, with no PG worth #10, goes for Kiki and his well rounded offensive game. Adding Kiki to Dumars, Smart, and Lucas has the makings of a potent offense down in the pretty near future. Kiki will leave you wanting on defense but hopefully his other contributions make up for that.
11. Brazil Franca BC: Harrison Barnes (SF)
Ghost team goes BPA who at this point is Barnes I guess.
12. Los Angeles Lakers: Darrell Griffith (SG)
After losing Paul Westphal last offseason, the Lakers have absolutely ZERO wings worth a damn. Griffith is the best one on the board and a freak of an athlete. While he is not a good passer which sometimes hurts at the 2, he will contribute scoring and solid/good defense right off the bat. Not a whole lot else to say here.
13. Seattle Supersonics: Doug Christie (SG)
I really like adding Christie to an already very good looking defensive unit. The recent addition of Kurland in the post along with KC and DD on the perimeter makes Christie a good choice to plug in at the 3. He isn't the strongest of highest jumping 3 you'll see, but he will be able to blow by most opposing SFs and should be able to help spread the floor around Kurland. His defense will be great from Day 1 barring TC death.
14. Newcastle Eagles: Joe Barry Carroll (C)
You know how they say dont trust a man with two first names? What about a guy with THREE? Anyway... this team is a colossal disappointment and will likely lose both Hakeem and Zoran due to obscene suckage... But JBC is young and has potential so maybe Newcastle just needs to hit the reset button and hope that both of their stars dont flip em the bird in FA.
15. Belgrade KK Partizan: Andrew Toney (SG)
This pick is likely dead wrong as KK curses the draft year selection for not producing more PGs. But I think KK benefits from adding scoring, perimeter defense and athleticism over adding a 3rd big in Ruhland. I really like where this team stands but they need a PG more than anything else. Either they trade the pick or hold onto it for a very solid all around 2 guard to play over Barry.
16. Mexico City Titans: Jim Jackson (SF)
Paolo is old and they need a future replacement. Tah-dah! Paolo's replacement is another purely offensive SF in Jim Jackson.
17. Cairo Zamalek: Jeff Ruhland (PF)
This isn't very likely to happen but Cairo certainly hopes so as David Lee stands as the lone post player worth a damn on this roster. But Stockton/Jones/Lee/Ruhland? Not a bad crew to have going into FA.
18. Mexico City Titans: Khris Middleton (SF)
This pick could very well be a guy like Gminski or Laettner to back up the bigs but I think Roark goes for a project and grabs Middleton to see whether he or Jim become anything worthwhile.
19. Boston Celtics: Darwin Cook (SG)
This makes me cry as I want Cook to fall to 21 but don't see any feasible way for that to happen. Boston continues building a terrifying defense by placing Cook with CP3 and Zo. Good luck scoring on them in a couple seasons.
20. Istanbul Anadolou Efes: Bradley Beal (SG)
Personally, I'm not a huge Beal fan because he can't rebound or pass. He is strictly a 2 guard. But he should be able to shoot well and become a capable defender so I can see him going here to Istanbul.
21. Beijing Aoshen: Christian Laettner (PF)
While they still pray that Cook finds his way to 21, they will settle for Xian in the meantime. With already pretty developed rebounding skills and an okay offensive look, playing next to Mikan allows for his lack of good defense to start his career. I really like the fit next to Mikan while I wait to see if Vazquez will ever be worth more than 15mpg.
22. Zagreb KK Cibona: Mike Gminski (C)
Not a whole lot to look forward to on this squad unless they can bring Kidd back along with another good FA. This team needs a real big man in a hurry as McCauley keeps losing a step. Gminski is the best still on the board.
23. Beijing Aoshen: Sparky Wade (PG)
Still heartbroken from not landing Cook, the Aoshen take only the 2nd PG in the draft in Sparky. He isn't overly athletic but bring the right quickness and a pretty well rounded game to the table for a team with no PG currently.
24. Vancouver Grizzlies: Terrence Ross (SF)
A project player come be worth a shot here. The other option would be Meyers Leonard.
25. Toronto Raptors: Meyes Leonard (C)
They take whichever project Vancouver left on the table.
26. Aisin Seahorses: Ronnie Lester (PG)
Dying for guards, the Seaponies find one sitting on the table in Ronnie Lester.
27. Vancouver Grizzlies: PJ Brown (PF/C)
I think Vancouver goes with the defense first pick here. PJ is ready to roll on that end of the court.
28. Rio de Janeiro Flamengo: Mike Woodson (SG)
This pick could be Mahorn, Hoory, or Googs too but I think the Flamingos go with a 2 guard.
29. San Francisco Warriors: Rick Mahorn (PF)
The Warriors have a lot of blank spots right now but the glaring thing is literally zero bigs among their 2 players lol. They take the most ready now big left in Mahorn which is a great value here at 29.
30. Minnesota Timberwolves: Robert Horry (PF)
I think Minny goes for the unique offensive game here. We've seen Horry develop into a legit offensive non-option player. Maybe we see it happen again.
31. Piraeus Olympiacos BC: Tom Gugliotta (PF)
32. Tel Aviv Maccabi: Kelvin Ransey (PG)
33. New York Knicks: Rory Sparrow (PG)
34. Buenos Aires Boca Juniors: Royce White (PF)
35. Auckland Breakers: Dion Waiters (SG)
36. Beijing Aoshen: Larry Drew (PG)
1. Milano Olimpia: Shaquille O'Neal (C)
