3 new teams enter "Contender" range
- Buenos Aires Boca Juniors: BA has been sitting comfortably atop their division all season, but a 7-1 sim has propelled them into the Contender range. When you think BA, you think Durant, Horford and Dampier - usually in that order. But perhaps Dampier is the key to the success of this team, averaging 17 PPG and 8 APG. Of the big three, he is the only one to have earned a Player of the Week award this season.
- Mikawa Aisin Seahorses: Mikawa is continuing their march towards the playoffs. They've moved the most out of any team in the last 3 sims, from 12 Power Points to 53. They started the season 24-28 and have since gone 13-3, now comfortably sitting in a playoff spot. Xavier McDaniel is coming off his third Play of the Week award, and they are the only team to have 3 different players win the award this season. Don't sleep on Mikawa come playoffs time - they could go all the way.
- Bamberg Brose Baskets: I've been waiting for Bamberg to enter the Contender range for some time now. They've made a lot of moves this season and are now stacked with capable veterans. Kirkland, averaging 19 PPG and 9APG just went down until at least the beginning of the playoffs. They should be fine to land a playoff spot without him, but will we see them add some insurance in case Kirkland isn't 100% come Round 1.
Titans fall big time
- Mexico City Titans: After starting the season 22-16, and having a nice run in the playoffs last year, the team has gone just 8-19 putting them 6 games out of a playoff spot. They have more talent than the average team, but with only 2 sims left it looking like they'll miss the playoffs. Management will probably need to shake things up in the offseason - and they have the ability to do that, as they currently hold two lottery picks in the upcoming draft.
Piraeus jumps to 2nd
- Piraeus Olympiacos BC: With the top 2 spots being held by Chicago and Auckland for most of the year, Piraeus is now in 2nd as Auckland drops to 4th. They continue to get solid all-around production from their guys, with Malone, Mikkelsen, Dalipagic, Luisetti and Phillip all contributing. The question for Piraeus heading into the playoffs is whether they have that one guy that can take over games and win them the championship. They're hoping Malone is that guy.
