Analysis
Los Angeles Lakers: They jumped the most this sim, up 8 spots to 16th, and have been on a steady climb the past 3 sims. They went 4-2 last sim, although all 4 wins were against "no hope" teams. It's clear they're not close to being a contender yet, but of the crappier teams they are proving to be one of the better ones. Bill Russell definitely has a lot to do with this, coming off his second Rookie of the Month award. The team has gone 8-4 in the last 12 games, after starting the season 15-31. The big jump also makes them the most underrated team right now, as they're ranked 29th in win % but 16th here. I think this is mostly due to their easy schedule recently, and will probably come back down to earth soon.
Vancouver Grizzlies: They tied Flamengo as the biggest drop this sim, dropping 4 spots to 20th. More importantly, the drop has pushed them from Pretender to No Hope. They went 0-6 last sim, never scoring more than 100 points. Clearly after trading Frazier and Sabonis the team is entering a re-tooling phase, so the drop was expected. They still have some decent talent, so I expect they'll level out around here.
Rio de Janeiro Flamengo: They also dropped 4 spots, down to 4th last. They too are re-tooling, and traded star PG Terry Porter away before last sim. At this point they're looking forward to the lottery.
Portland Trailblazers: They are technically the most overrated team right now, ranked 17th in win% but 27th in the power poll. New management came in on fire, but the analytics suggest this might have just been an adrenaline rush rather than sustainable results. They did add Connie Hawkins, but gave away Randolph and Stoudamire, so we'll have to see where they go from here. Although they are technically only 4 games out of a playoff spot, the power poll suggests they have no hope.
