Mike Gminski(#42)Height: 6-11 Weight: 250 lbs. Position: Center Born: August 3, 1959 in Monroe, Connecticut Age Drafted: 21 College: Duke University Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
Gminski came in with high expectations after averaging 19/10 in his college career at Duke. He averaged 11.7ppg during his career, and may have been higher, but he never cracked the lineup often enough to put up bigger numbers. Mike was a great FT shooter, although he only got to the line 3 times a night. The seasons where he was a starter and played decent minutes he was a very solid rebounder, averaging over 8 a game 5 different times. He was very good while on the floor at not fouling the opposing players, and managed to block a shot a night in limited time.
Weaknesses
Durability and the ability to play major minutes were a big drawback for Mike. He only averaged 25mpg for his career where he could have done so much more with better stamina and the will. Mike also was not a great passer from the post barely averaging over 1 APG for his career as well. Overall minutes and the amount of years and teams he played for really drove down Gminskis career numbers but he really didn't excel at alot of things. Also not very mobile due to injuries and size.
Notes
2 Time NCAA AP All American (2nd Team).
Gminski is a perfect example of a player who could have been something more in the right situation. Maybe he'll get his chance here
