| Kiki Vandeweghe(#55)Height: 6-8 Weight: 220 lbs. Position: Small Forward and Power Forward Born: August 1, 1958 in Wiesbaden, Germany Age Drafted: 22 College: University of California, Los Angeles Source: Basketball Reference |
StrengthsKiki is an excellent perimeter scorer who has a deceptive first step and some fundamental post up skills rare for a SF. He is a very effective scorer with a career shooting line of .525/.368/.872. Although he can drain the three with regularity he does not take many attempts from downtown (0.7/game). Is a surprisingly good athlete with solid strength and a good first step. His good handle (1.6 turnovers per game) lets him take bigger opponents off the dribble. Rebounds at just an average level for a SF. Gets to the line. WeaknessesIs not a great defender although he will give good effort against both bigs and perimeter players. Does not force turnovers via the block or steal. Despite being a better than advertised athlete he can get abused by stronger players, and exploited by quicker players. His rebounding is a problem when played primarily at PF. Notes2 Time All Star, Scored 20+ppg for 7 consecutive years until getting hurt. StrengthsKiki was a bigtime scorer in his day. A very good outside shooter who possessed a unique size and skillset to make him hard to guard for Small Forwards and his quickness could make him hard to defend by bigger PFs. Kiki had good range, although rarely took the 3 point shot, he was known for having an amazing step back jump shot. He averaged over 20 a game for 7 straight seasons, with 4 of them being 25ppg or higher. Kiki was very efficient shooting over 50% for his career, and was over 80% from the free throw line as well. WeaknessesFor everything Kiki is on the offense, he is very lacking in most other categories. For a 6'8 SF he was a below average rebounder (3.4RPG), and he never was much for his shot blocking or ability to steal the ball or cause a turnover. Like most big time scorers he is kind of a black hole when he gets the ball, only averaging 2 APG for his career. His size did not help him from being able to be overpowered by bigger 4s. Notes11th Overall Pick (1980 Draft), 2 Time All Star, Prolific Scorer averaged 29.4ppg in 1984 during his streak of 7 straight 20ppg+ seasons. Injuries were always a problem that hurt him. StrengthsVandewghe was a prolific scorer, averaging almost 20 points per a game for his career. A career 52/37/88 shooter, he was wildly efficient and despite his limited athleticism 4 times ranked in the top 10 in NBA scoring. He was known for his devastating step-back and is pretty quick for a big player. As well as being an efficient shooter, Kiki was one of the best players in the league in limiting turnovers. WeaknessesKiki was a bit of a tweener, not quite strong enough to guard PFs and too slow to stick with SFs. He didn't get many steals or blocks, so he will always bit of a concern defensively. Probably would be best as super-sub. Notes2x All-Star, 4x Top 10 ppg, 4x Top 10 FTM Current AttributesINS | JPS | FTS | 3PS | HND | PAS | ORB | DRB | PSD | PRD | STL | BLK | QCK | STR | JMP | STA |
