StrengthsOne of the best post players of all time, McHale is scarily efficient scoring the basketball averaging 17.9 points in 31 minutes per game for his career (came off the bench his first half of his career) shooting .554./798/.261 and leading the league twice in FG%. Scored 20+ ppg for 6 straight seasons. Strong rebounder especially on the defensive glass and excellent defender who use his length and surprising quickness for his size to create turnovers (1.7 blocks). Has the ability to switch on pick n rolls and use the aforementioned length to disrupt perimeter players. Tough as nails played through an entire playoffs with a broken foot. WeaknessesHis nickname "the Black Hole" illustrates his lack of passing. Isn't bad at it just doesn't pass it much Despite being a skilled rebounder he never averaged 10+ a game. Was nicked up a lot in his career and after playing through the playoffs on a broken foot was never quite as a elite. Not a great jumper. StrengthsOn a very small list of greatest PF to play the game. McHale, a career 18ppg scorer spent the first stretch of his career coming off the bench, making his averages even more impressive. He shot a great .554 FG%, twice leading the NBA in that statistic. McHale attacked the basket from the low post very aggressively getting to the free throw line just under 5 times a night hitting 80% of his free throws. Kevin was an outstanding rebounder, much better on the defensive glass. McHale was able to take advantage of his length and size along with decent speed to get around defenders and open up a high percentage shot. He was also a very good shot blocker almost averaging 2 BPG for his career, 5 times being over 2 a game. WeaknessesMcHale was often injury prone throughout his career. Passing was never a thing that he was praised for, and in general he was clumsy with them for on ball defense. He never was much for steals, but never turned it over enought to be a major issue. Notes3rd Overall Pick (1980), 7 Time All Star, 2 Time 6th Man of the Year, NBA All Rookie 1st Team, 86-87 All NBA 1st Team, 3x All Defensive 1st team, 3x All Defensive 2nd team, 3 Time NBA Champion, Hall of famer. StrengthsThe obvious strength for McHale is his ability to score in the post. His array of post moves is legendary, and was almost unguardable in the low post. Besides his low-post scoring, McHale was a competent jump shooter from 10-12 feet and an above average free throw shooter for a big. Defensively, McHale was an above-average defender who could block shots as well as contain faster players. I'd look for McHale to be a go-to scorer from the time he enters the league. WeaknessesThere aren't too many knocks on McHale, his biggest 'problem' is that he is not much of a passer. However, as a post player, this is to be expected. The other potential weakness facing McHale is his rebounding. He's certainly not bad, but no where near the elite level that you'd expect from a top pick. His career rebounds per game, rebounds per 100 possessions, and per 36 minutes are not particularly impressive. Athletically McHale is not a great jumper, nor is he particularly quick. He could struggle against more athletic bigs.
