Vancouver (AP) – After what has been a whirlwind of a week that saw multiple franchise players declare for Ultimate ABCA Creation Draft, it seems a few more surprises have come up over the weekend. As we covered the 5 potential franchise players earlier, we were delighted to see another bunch of potential franchise players declare for the draft, which is shaping up quite nicely. If GMs from around the league werent excited about the previous crop of entrants, they for sure are jumping at the bit to draft some of these new guys. With that being said, let’s take a look at who could join the likes of Jordan and Hakeem at the top of the draft.
Patrick Ewing – Entering his prime? Check. A defensive beast who protects the rim? Check. Ferocious rebounder who’s arms touch the ground? Check. A force down on the block who can hardly be contained? CHECK! This right here is a premiere talent that will contend for the overall pick. He checks off everything you want in a big man with great size, awesome athleticism and great knowledge of the game. It will be difficult to pass up a talent like this.
Kevin Garnett – If you’re looking for a big man who won’t razzle and dazzle you down low but impacts the game in every other facet at an elite level, well then Kevin Garnett is your man. He is going to be a point forward in this league, one who will average 5apg while playing dominant post defense and rebounding like a mad man. Due to his athleticism, he will give you a good 15ppg as well, which is just sugar on the top. When you factor in his age, this my friends is probably a top 5 pick.
Karl Malone – Just picture a smaller version of Ewing, one who doesn’t defend the rim but is a much better passer. Is that tradeoff something you can live with? Your damn right you can. Malone is going to overpower guys downlow on a nightly basis . He is a man amongst boys when it comes to battling on the block, as he uses his brute strength to just bulldoze his way to rebounds and to score.
Arvydas Sabonis – The biggest guy in the draft standing 7-3 with passing skills that make you think he’s a point guard, Sabonis is not only unique but he could potentially be the premier big man. His size will allow him to dominate the paint and when you add in his low post game, his ability to pass out of double teams and his sky hook jumpshot, the package is extremely enticing. Getting ready to enter his prime, Sabonis looks to capitalize on a career in Ultimate that will help resuscitate his subpar image from Legends. This guy can be a top 10 pick depending upon certain GMs preferences.
Grant Hill – Probably the best player from Duke of all time, Grant is Mr. Do it all. An athlete with good size who is above average in all facets of the game is going to garner a lot of attention. However, being above average in everything and not elite in anything also has it’s drawbacks. At 25 years of age, Hill has the potential and current ability to blossom into one of the best players in the league in a few years. If he is able to fulfill on his immense potentials, a lot of teams will look back at this draft shaking their heads that they passed on this guy.
Jason Kidd – It looks like it’s going to come down to Kidd and Stockton for the best pure PG in the draft. Kidd has the size, strength and rebounding prowess to potentially play the 2 in the league, however, he will need to hit the gym and practice his shot. While it’s not broken, there is significant potential for improvement that will allow him to take his game to another level. Already a lockdown defender who is an elite rebounder for his position, the only thing holding this man back from being a top 5 player is his shot. Luckily for him, he already impacts the game in other facets that he has time to develop that area and launch himself into superstardom.
Chris Mullin – The best player to come out of St. John’s University, Mullin is an absolutely LETHAL shooter from downtown. He’s an assassin from 3 point land and looks to be developing into an all-around 3 and D small forward. Never going to be confused with the Pippens of the world, Mullin has the potential to carry an offense due to the attention opposing defenses must pay him. With all eyes focused on his every movement, he is the consummate franchise player as he will allow others to thrive. Look for him to be drafted anywhere from 7-15.
And that concludes this weeks recap, until the next time.
