Hometown: Brownsburg, Indiana

STRENGTHS:
Brownsburg's finest (not saying a ton) is your classic case of Indiana basketball. Gordon Hayward grew up as a lanky kid in a city of 20,000 just outside Indianapolis and turned into an NBA all-star through a ton of hard work. Hayward came into the NBA with a plethora of question marks and weaknesses, and a lot of concern over a scrawny white guy going #9, but he so far has addressed every single problem and proven critics wrong. Hayward's a smart player who most thought would be a good role player in the NBA, a limited playmaker and jump shooter. However, he has improved his range dramatically, bulked up, and turned into a star-level playmaker and scorer, able to impact the offense everywhere. He's even turned into quite the athlete, which gives Hayward a scary combination of intelligence, willpower, work ethic, athleticism, and skill. He doesn't turn the ball over much, makes smart passes, doesn't foul, and gets after it on defense as best he can.
WEAKNESSES:
Gordon Hayward was weak coming into the NBA, probably just north of 190 pounds. He's bulked up significantly, gaining a ton of muscle that has helped him to finish around the rim and play more in the post. He generally was not a good athlete coming into the NBA, lacking elite level quickness and leaping ability. Unlike most players, though, Hayward is a better athlete at 26 years old than he was at 19. But it still took him some time to do so. Hayward was fairly raw coming into the league, lacking the finishing ability inside and the range outside that he has now. He's a poor offensive rebounder and until he bulks up, will struggle to play in the post on both ends. Finally, Hayward is limited on the defensive end of the floor. He busts his ass, but will never be a lockdown kind of guy.
