Name: Fred Jones
Position: Shooting Guard, Point Guard, Small Forward
Number: 20
DOB: March 11, 1979
Age when drafted: 23
College: University of Oregon
Hometown: Gresham, Oregon
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 210
STRENGTHS:
Jones is a very good athlete. He's strong for a guard and can jump out of the gym, finishing well around the basket. He has an emerging 3-point shot and shows some promise as a primary ball handler and playmaker on offense. His athleticism also helps him on the defensive end, where he is far from a stopper but is more than capable. He can guard 1-3 one-on-one, although he does get lost a bit off the ball.
WEAKNESSES:
For being 23 years old, Jones is still fairly raw. His jump shot should have come along more by now and you would think he'd be a better finisher. He doesn't have much of a mid-range game and is fairly turnover-prone. He's a bit undersized for a 2-guard at 6'4", so teams might be tempted to give him time at PG, but he does not have the court vision for the position. He has a fair amount of potential, but it's unclear if he will be able to reach it.
