Name: Walter Jones Bellamy
Position: C
Height: 6'11
Weight: 225 lbs
Number: 8
DOB: July 24, 1939
Age when drafted: 22
College: Indiana University
Hometown: Newbern, North Carolina
Strengths:
Bellamy was the no. 1 pick in 1961 and he lived up to the hype. He is considered to be one of the best big men of the 60's not far off from the big names like Wilt and Russell. A dominant rebounder he averaged nearly 14 RPG over his 14 year career with a career high 19.7 RPG in his rookie season. Also a dominant scorer, he averaged just over 20.1 PPG throughout his career with a career best 31.6 in his rookie season. He was a great finisher at the rim and one of the rare big men of the 60s who was a good jump shooter. For a big man, he was a decent passer and could give you 3-4 assists a night. Was a good athlete for a big guy. Good defender as well, didn't shine in the 8 team league of the 60's with all time defenders like Wilt, Russell and Thurmond but could definitely hold his own with post defense and shot blocking. Very Durable. Good handles for a big man.
Weaknesses:
Not the best free throw shooter even though he was a good jump shooter for a big man with a career mark under 65%.
Notes:

"One of the best centers at driving to the basket that there ever was." -Pete Maravich
