Cream of the Crop Made on Day 2
With another wave of elite prospects being added to the creation draft, it’s time to take a look at what seems to potentially be the cream of the crop. With at least 5 more classes still to declare, the elite seem to be separating themselves from the rest of the class and have created a large class of franchise players. Let’s take a look and see who recently declared that could potentially lead a franchise!
1. Michael Jordan
An elite talent who will most likely be the number 1 or 2 pick in the draft. MJ blends elite athleticism with elite skills to form an overall package that is unparalleled. He can play SG or SF and this versatility will potentially cause mismatches as GMs can look to exploit weaknesses in their opponents by shifting him around. Look for this guy to compete for the MVP right off the bat.
2. Hakeem Olajuwon
If Jordan is 1A, Hakeem is without a doubt 1B. Another elite talent, Hakeem is entering his prime and blends size, skill and athleticism like no other play at his position. Depending upon the teams style, Hakeem will challenge for the top overall pick as a franchise center should keep a team at the top of the standings for a long time. This man will be able to carry any team, as long as there are 4 other capable bodies around him.
3. Charles Barkley
Take everything that was just said about Hakeem and apply it to Barkley, except the blending of size. Barkley will come in as the ideal PF, as he checks off every single box you can want except for rim protection. Where he lacks there, he more than makes up for it with his quick hands to generate steals. Who needs blocks when you can just pick the pockets of your opponents due to their weak hands? Since he’s relegated to PF, he will probably fall into the 3-7 range come draft day.
4. John Stockton
Finally a franchise guy that plays potentially the most important position on the court, PG! John Stockton is going to be a lockdown defender, elite ball handler with great court vision and a threat from down town. Similar to all three guys, he is just entering his prime and will challenge for DPOY right out of the gate. It will be almost impossible for him to match his previous skill level in Legends but Ultimate Stockton doesn’t look to be much of a slouch either.
5. Mel Daniels
Is this a stretch to call Mel Daniels a franchise player?! Probably. However, since I felt he was a significant addition to this draft class, I wanted to mention him. He will be an elite defender who is going to rely on his athleticism for buckets but for teams that want a guy who will score efficiently, he will be your man. I don’t think he is a true franchise player but he is definitely in the cream of the crop of this last class that declared.
Until the next wave of the class declares, hopefully you guys enjoyed our first installation of the Vancouver Post's Ultimate ABCA coverage.
