Hey everyone,
Given the opportunity of starting a new league, I'm going to start a project that tracks player rating changes. The goal will be to eventually have enough data to identify any trends, if they exist.
I'll be pulling a data dump of all player ratings, at the same time each year before training camp. I'll be using the league scout's ratings, as this is the easiest way to do it, and it ensures consistency from year-to-year. Although the league scout may not be the most accurate, this analysis is not about accuracy - it's about how ratings change. It's important to use the same scout in year 1 as in year 10.

To help quantify things, I will set a rating system that translates letter grades to numbers. For example, A+ will be 12, A will be 11, A- will be 10, etc. This will help organize the data, since there will be a lot of it, and will help identify where to look. For example, we'll be able to see if a player's overall rating drops from 100 to 90, rather then trying to look at where the B+'s went to B-'s.
I will also organize the data in a manner that it can be cut in different ways to identify trends - by position, by team, by GM, etc. (I am open to suggestions of what other data to collect. If I don't collect it, we may miss an opportunity to analyze the data a certain way in the future)
The only thing I'll ask from individual GMs is for them to send me a screen shot of their TC inputs before they submit them each year, so we can cross reference that information with the player ratings. Obviously the participation is completely voluntary, but the more we have the better the information will be.
Please provide any/all suggestions you have about this idea. The more well thought out it is now, the more useful the information will be in the end.
