T.J. Ford(#11)Height: 6-0 Weight: 165 lbs. Position: Point Guard Born: March 24, 1983 in Houston, Texas Age Drafted: 20 College: University of Texas at Austin Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
Lightning quick guard taken with the 8th pick in the 2003 draft. TJ was coming off an outstanding high school and college career and was destined to be a good point guard at the pro level. Had great vision heralded by media pundits to possess the ability to see a play before it happened. Great free throw shooter with a career FT percentage at 82% with a season best 88% in 06-07. Had a good jumpshot to keep defenders honest. Using his speed could get to the rim and drew fouls at an okay rate at almost 3 a game for his career. Good defender due to quickness. Good handles kept the ball protected. Decent ability to steal the ball.
Weaknesses
Not a good 3 point shooter for a guard with a career 29% from behind the arc. Very injury prone had back issues throughout his career and was forced to retire from the NBA due to injuries a 28. Not a good rebounder even for a guard with a career mark of 3.1 RPG for his career. Being slight allowed him to be bullied by bigger guards at times.
Notes
Won the Naismith Men's College Player of the Year Award in 2002-03 and was going to be a great point guard in the league. Unfortunately as mentioned earlier never had any luck with health and was out of the league by 28.
