Rick Barry(#24)Height: 6-7 Weight: 205 lbs. Position: Small Forward Born: March 28, 1944 in Elizabeth, New Jersey Age Drafted: 21 College: University of Miami Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
An offensive force few in league history could match up with Barry is the only player in league history to lead both the nba and aba in scoring.
Top shelf free throw shooter
No one in the NBA at the time was more competitive
Under appreciated athlete. Had great size, strength and speed for someone his size.
Great stamina
Wide array of shots, whether it being from the outside, jump shooting or at the rim few in league history could find more ways to score.
Better than expected on defense, especially when it comes to stealing the ball. His quick hands and basketball instincts only helped him on defense.
Weaknesses
Could be a better rebounder and shot blocker, especially with someone with his athletic skill. For a guy who scored so much in his career, he did not offensive rebound much
Average ball handler, he developed into a much better passer as he got later in his career.
Team mates described him as hard to get along with, sometime his perfectionist attitude would come off as overly critical.
Notes
12 times an nba and aba all star
9 times all league 1st team
4 times all league 2nd team
top 6 in defensive win shares two different times
steals leader in 1975
If this we're any other draft barry could easily be the top selection. IMO he's easily top 3 in terms of talent, if he were a more modern talent he could be the top pick.
