Joseph Young(#1)Height: 6-2 Weight: 180 lbs. Position: Point Guard Born: June 27, 1992 in Houston, Texas Age Drafted: 23 College: University of Oregon Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
Joe Young is a knock down 3-point shooter. He shot 39% from 3 and 89% from the free throw line in college. He's a high-volume scorer who has shown some ability to shoot the mid-range J and finish a bit inside. He has good handles and the ability to create well for himself, showing some potential in the pick & roll. Young is also a decent rebounder for his size. Finally, Young is a good athlete, possessing good strength, quickness, and leaping abilities for college.
Weaknesses
Young is one of those players who might struggle to transition from college star to ABCA role player. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective and needs to shoot a high volume of shots to get hot. He's also barely a PG. While he has adequate handles for a PG, can bring the ball up the court, and initiate a bit of offense, he struggles to create for others and run an offense full-time. He was athletic enough in college, but it's unclear if his strength and finishing ability will translate to the pros. Finally, his defense, overall is putrid. The quickness he shows on offense is completely absent on the other end of the court. Young is easily blown by and has not shown the defensive instincts or general ability to even be passable on defense.
