Myles Turner(#33)Height: 6-11 Weight: 243 lbs. Position: Center Born: March 24, 1996 in Bedford, Texas Age Drafted: 19 College: University of Texas at Austin Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
Myles Turner has a sweet jump shot that defines the rest of his offensive game. He is absolutely money from mid-range and even has the ability to step out to the 3-point line. He has a good touch around the basket as well, which means he has the ability to play all over the court on offense. He can run the pick & pop and dribble hand-off, curl for a jump shot, spot up, and even create his own shot in the post. His post game is somewhat reliable, but still developing. He's most comfortable facing up for a jump shot or shooting a turnaround fade away, but has shown some ability to execute more power big man moves. On defense, Turner is a stellar shot blocker with great instincts. He shows some potential in being able to switch on pick & rolls and guard stretch bigs on the perimeter. Off the court, Turner is intelligent, well-spoken, and able to learn. He reminds me a lot of fellow Texas alumnus, LaMarcus Aldridge.
Weaknesses
Aside from his youth, Turner's biggest weakness is probably his strength. While work with trainers and doctors has enabled him to overcome an odd running technique and subsequently made him quicker, he has very little lower body strength. The remainder of his weight is likely due to him being a bigger/pudgier kid for most of his life. Turner's weak body limits his ability to finish, easily allowing defenders to knock him off balance and making him finish small around the rim. On defense, Turner is easily out-muscled for positioning and leaves a lot to be desired in his post defense and rebounding. Aside from generally poor athletics, Turner is not very effective when he doesn't get the ball on offense. While he is an energy guy due to his youth and offensive firepower, he's a poor rebounder overall. Lastly, he's young and makes mistakes. He bites on pump fakes, fouls too often, and is late on defensive rotations, although these issues might get better with time.
