James Jones(#33)Height: 6-8 Weight: 218 lbs. Position: Small Forward and Shooting Guard Born: October 4, 1980 in Miami, Florida Age Drafted: 23 College: University of Miami Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
James Jones is a knock down 3-point shooter. He is perhaps one of the best examples of a "3-and-D" guy, a role player who knows his place and does nothing more. This will enable him to find a niche on any team in the ABCA. In addition, Jones is a passable defensive rebounder and a solid on-ball defender. He has the versatility to guard SGs, SFs, and PFs. He is an intelligent player who knows where to be on both sides of the floor.
Weaknesses
Jones contributes nothing more than 3-pointers and defense. While he can step in for the occasional long two-pointer, he is far more effective standing beyond the arc. Jones has no game off the dribble. He cannot create for himself or others in the slightest way, and absolutely cannot finish anywhere close to the rim. On the defensive end, Jones is somewhat limited by his athleticism and is not good at forcing turnovers or blocking shots. If you draft James Jones, you are getting, at best, a rotational player and potential spot starter in case of injury. He will never be any more than a role player, but could end up being a good role player.
