Mark Aguirre(#24)Height: 6-6 Weight: 232 lbs. Position: Small Forward Born: December 10, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois Age Drafted: 22 College: DePaul University Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
At 6'6" and a chiseled 232 lbs Aguirre was in many ways a man 25 years ahead of his time using his great strength and athletic ability to cause match up nightmares for the opposition. He could score from everywhere (.484 FG for career), dunking in transition, hitting open jumpers and 3PTers (career .312) and getting to the line (5.4 FTA/GM) and making you pay (.741). Took smaller players into the post or backed them down to create buckets. Averaged 18+ PPG his first 8 years in the league including 20+ 6 times. Has enough quickness to move over to SG if needed and is both a solid rebounder (5.0) and passer (3.1) for his career. Averaged 20ppg for his career despite playing only 30MPG for his career due to moving to a 6th man role in Detroit. Comes into the league ready to contribute offensively but needing to work on other parts of his game.
Weaknesses
Despite his athleticism never generated many blocks (0.3) or steals (0.7). At times dominates the ball, although he was horrible turning it over (only 2.5 per game). Is not a great defender and is foul prone (2.8 fpg) mainly due to at times being out of position. He is not an elite jumper. Some say he is only a SF due to decent but not elite quickness.
Notes
1st overall pick in 1981 Draft. 79-80 Naismith Player of the Year in College. 2 time NBA Champion. 3 Time NBA All Star.
