Darwin Cook(#12)Height: 6-3 Weight: 184 lbs. Position: Point Guard and Shooting Guard Born: August 6, 1958 in Los Angeles, California Age Drafted: 22 College: University of Portland Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
Elite athelte, the long armed Cook is a defensive menace who averaged 1.7 steals per game for his career despite only playing 23.1 MPG. Has the ability to play either guard spot and is a solid distributor of the ball (3.7 apg). Along with his good hands defensively, Cook is a strong defender in part because of good lower body strength and quickness which allow him to stay in front of pretty much anybody. There is a lot of talent here but it is pretty raw.
Weaknesses
Not a particular strong rebounder (2.1) and despite being a good passer his fearlessness at attacking the basket leads to poor shot selection at time (.452 on 8.9fga) and turnovers (1.8 per game). While he can hit the mid range jumper (.764 ft) he struggles from downtown (.196). His aggressive nature can cause him to struggle to stay on the court as he averaged (2.1 fouls in 21 mpg).
Notes
Drafted 4th round (70th pick) of the 1980 NBA Draft. Stud in Legends... Led NBA in steal percentage (4.1) in 83-83 (5 straight years in top 10) Nicknamed Sparkplug for the energy he provides off the bench.
