Retirement & (potentially) Final Ultimate ABCA Season

So I want to start this off by apologizing to the GMs that are still actively participating and enjoying the league. I know that's the typical NY thing to do but I know there are a lot of GMs that enjoy ABCA and have enjoyed it through the different incarnations for years. 

With that said, on Tuesday when I run the Season 10 Ultimate ABCA Finals, that'll be my last ABCA sim for the foreseeable future. This may seem to be coming out of nowhere but in reality it's something that has been building for the past few seasons but I kept deciding against because I wanted to keep the league going for everyone. But then about a week ago, I decided to finally bite the bullet and step away and let the most of the other committee members know. This was also my attempt to find someone to fill in so that the league could keep going but I didn't have any success there. That's not me throwing anyone under the bus (I want to stress that), because I understand that running ABCA requires you dedicating a lot of time outside of just showing up and simming (which is something I didn't fully appreciate until filling in for JScott). Anyway while they all understood me stepping away, they ended up helping change my mind and I decided to keep running things. However after Friday which saw us lose a 6th member when the committee were already planning on contracting to help with our vacant team issue and butting heads with a few GMs that I was honestly just tired of butting heads with, I flip flopped again. I looked at our forum and saw a our most recent thread with 2 post in it, I looked at the GMOTY voting where I got 6 votes (which is only slightly less than what we got last year), and I looked back at our recent sims which had maybe 6-7 (I'll 9-10 on our lucky days) showing up for them and it was discouraging to say the least. I'm not saying me stepping away from the league was the other GMs faults because like I said there is a lot of GMs that made the league super enjoyable, but seeing that downward trend that started near the end of Legends was definitely frustrating. If I'm being honest with everyone, I never really wanted to run the league full time but when JScott wasn't able to do it anymore, I wanted to help out the league and I know I could fill in for a while. But since I took over, my enjoyment level was going lower and lower and I think that showed.  So after Friday, the committee and I agreed that it would make sense to contract down to like 28 teams & make an announcement that if we can't get the spots filled and get activity back right then we'd shut things down after Season 11. I even had found a way to bring the pace down for the league to get more normalized stats without any player being changed or GMs settings being messed with to get rid of the repeated complaint that the league's talent was too high. But after taking some time to think about it, I just felt like it would be better to step away now. So yeah, that's my long and probably unnecessary post.

So What's Next?

- Like I mentioned, I have reached out to a few GMs about taking over but so far no luck. However if you feel like you want to run the league then let me know and we can talk. I don't want to just dump the league off on somebody but if there's someone that feels like they can give the league the attention it needs maybe the league can keep going even with me stepping away. 

- Something that was suggested by another committee member is doing something that was done in the past was taking a break and then coming back to things a few months down the line with a fresh league (which would likely only be a 20 team league). But I can't promise anything, so I don't want to guarantee something like this will happen. 

So the TL:DR version of this is, after the finals are run for Season 10 I will be stepping away as both the commish and New York GM. If there is another GM that want's to take a crack at running things, we can talk about it but otherwise this is the last season for Ultimate ABCA. Again I apologize for blindsiding anyone with this but this was a decision I felt was necessary.
