Center: Ben Wallace
The first player ever officially signed to the roster, Ben Wallace was a fan favorite the moment he stepped onto the floor, and was loved throughout his 9 year stay at the team. Drafted with the #3 pick in the 2nd round of the creation draft he went on to become one of the best defensive players in the ABCA. Here is a look at his achievements, Championships x1, Defensive Player of the Year x2, Playoff MVP, All-Defensive First Team x3, All-Defensive Second Team x3. He leads the franchise in rebounds, steals, blocks and double doubles.
Forward: Julius Erving
A big free agent signing for Tel Aviv on a 4 year $80,703,000 contract, after they had been to two consecutive final appearances, which caused a lot of talk around the league. He went on to help the team reach two more final appearances during his two seasons with the team. After 3 great seasons with Harlem he signed with Tel Aviv to form a great partnership with Elgin Baylor. He had a bit of everything in his game, his explosive scoring, rebounding, passing, he was an exciting player to watch. Amir Johnson came close in the voting here, his decline in recent seasons probably saw him receive fewer votes.
Forward: Elgin Baylor
Tel Aviv drafted Elgin Baylor with the 2nd overall pick in the first rookie draft in league history and he went on to make an immediate impact. He took the team from the lottery to a championship in his first season with the team, picking up rookie of the year, an all star appearance and an all league 3rd team along the way. He led the team in scoring through all 6 seasons with the team becoming the franchise leader in points in the process. He picked up 5 all star, 1 All-League 1st team and 3 All-League 3rd team while playing for Tel Aviv. Viewed as the best player to have played for the franchise.
Guard: Pete Maravich
Another player selected with a 2nd overall pick, Tel Aviv fans are hopeful he can make an impact on the franchise like Baylor did before him. Only played 1 season, a disappointing one overall for the team but a good rookie year for him and fans are hopeful that he can kick on next season. Not a great position for the team historically, Bruce Bowen played here when the team won a championship and received some votes, Baylor also spent time here when Erving was around.
Guard: Pierluigi Marzorati
Drafted at the end of the 3rd round during the creation draft, Marzorati is one of those players you can't fully judge just by looking at the stat sheet. A great leader for the team and floor general, his tough play particularly on the defensive end of the floor really helped the team during his 6 seasons with the team. Wasn't expected to score much but his defense, passing and his winning mentality is what fans remember him for.
