Name: Paul George AKA PG-13 Position: Small Forward Number: 13 DOB: May 2, 1990 Age when drafted: 2010 NBA Draft (20) College: California State University Hometown: Palmdale, California Height: 6'9" Weight: 220 STRENGTHS:As the 10th pick in the 2010 draft, it is safe to say that Paul George has far exceeded expectations. George brings to the table elite athleticism, especially his jumping ability which he uses often to slam home some show time dunks. Outstanding perimeter defender, has the ability to shutdown opposing assignments and has the size to be effective on the block as well. Good three point shooter with a career percent of 37% beyond that arc and career high in 16-17 at 39% on high volume at almost 5.5 attempts per game for his career. Good speed for a player his size. Good defensive rebounder for the small forward position averaging over 5 for his career. Elite at the line at just under 85% FT percentage and career high 93% in 16-17. Has the ability to steal the ball with just under 2 SPG for his career. Not foul prone. Will develop in to a great scorer, has averaged over 22 PPG in his 3 prime season thus far. Decent passer for a forwards at 3 APG. WEAKNESSES: No offensive rebounding ability, this is detrimental because at 6'9 George will often play PF when his team is looking to play small ball. No ability to block shots despite his defensive prowess. He is obviously mainly a perimeter defender but will sometimes play the 4 where this would be an advantage. Name: Paul George Position: Small Forward/Shooting Guard Number: 13, 24 DOB: May 2, 1990 Age when drafted: 20 College: Fresno State Hometown: Palmdale, CA Height: 6'9" Weight: 220 STRENGTHS: Paul George is perhaps the most talented player to ever suit up for the Pacers. He doesn't quite have the legacy Reggie Miller or George McGinnis do, but also doesn't really have any wholes in his game and is a legitimate superstar. George came in as an unheralded athlete and defender with a decent jump shot, but quickly developed into a bomber from downtown and a lockdown defender. As his ball handling developed, George blossomed into a superstar with his ability to create for himself and others. Although his game has changed throughout the years, George has always shown a good ability to finish in traffic and over the rim. He's learned to play well off the ball, spotting up for 3s at a good clip and curling off picks for jump shots all over the court. George has shot 39% from 10-16 feet and 40% on long 2s for his career, in addition to 37% from 3 (which is brought down by his rookie season). He's also developed a pretty good post game throughout the years. Defensively, he's a stud. He can guard 1-4, is a very good defensive rebounder, and locks people down when he wants to. He'll also gamble the passing lanes and pick pockets to get your team some fastbreak points. WEAKNESSES: While George came in as an elite athlete, his strength has always been an issue. Particularly post-injury, he has struggled to finish around the basket (~60%) and doesn't get a ton of lift when he drives. Larry Bird tried to get him to play PF post-injury, which dramatically failed because of George's unwillingness to mix it up down low, both on the glass and on defense. He flat out doesn't have the strength to bang with big men. George has some issues with his focus and attitude, which fits in well with his draft class. He consistently complains about officiating, takes possessions off on defense when he's in a scoring mood, and takes possessions off on offense when he gets discouraged. George's biggest weakness coming into the league was his ball handling, which was below average for a swingman. He's improved dramatically throughout the years and is better than most swingmen, but is probably below average at ball handling for a playmaking swingman. Finally, George's game has shifted to the perimeter throughout the years. His rookie season, 30% of his shots came around the rim. Now, just 13% do. Since his injury, George has been hesitant to take the ball to the rim and settles for a lot of contested jump shots instead.
