Name: Oscar Robertson
Position: Point Guard
Number: 1, 14
DOB: Nov. 24, 1938
Age when drafted: 21
College: University of Cincinnati
Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 205
STRENGTHS:
The Big O is one of the most unique players the game has ever seen. He's one of Indiana's top high school players, ever, and was part of the opposition team in the game that inspired the movie Hoosiers. He's further one of the top NCAA and NBA players of all-time. Robertson could play all over the floor, as a big PG, even for modern standards, as a post option, or as a shooter. His rookie year in the NBA almost mirrored the numbers Russell Westbrook is putting up now. When Oscar retired, he was the NBA's 2nd leading scorer all-time, first in assists and free throws made. He created the head-fake and fade away jump shot, tools that enabled him to average around 30 ppg his first eight seasons. By all accounts, Robertson would have been a solid 3-point shooter, although he made his money in the mid-range. Finally, Robertson was a ridiculous athlete, strong enough to play in the post against Forwards, quick enough to break down guards, and with the leaping ability to finish above the rim.
WEAKNESSES:
Although Robertson dominated the game unlike any other player, defense is something that usually doesn't come up when legends discuss Robertson. He never made an All-Defensive team and appears to have been much more focused on offense. Robertson, despite his statistical prowess, was not a winner until his tenure with the Bucks, and won only one MVP award. If Robertson had any weaknesses in the modern NBA game, they would be his extended jump shot, defense, and proneness to turnovers.
