Name: Jerry Lucas Position: PF / C Number: 16 DOB: March 30, 1940 Age When Drafted: 23 College: Ohio State University Hometown: Middletown, Ohio Height: 6-8 Weight: 230 |
Strengths
The best rebounder in the draft, period. Will grab anything within his vicinity using a tenacious and aggressive style of play. A dominant weapon offensively capable of scoring from the block with either hand or hitting the faceup midrange shot. There is even a hint of a 3pt shot in his arsenal and scouts think he can develop it into a visible option in his utility belt. Good and willing passer who'll make the right decision most of the time.
Weaknesses
Not a sieve defensively, but he'll struggle guarding the post and handling the pick & roll. Somewhat slow-footed and lacking vertical jumping ability, scouts worry whether some of his dominance will fail to carry over when he's greeted by far superior athletes in the ABCA. Will need to work on his fouling habits as it often keeps him off the floor during important moments.
Notable Information
- Widely considered one of the greatest rebounders in NBA history who ranks fourth all-time behind notable names like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Bob Pettit.
- 7x NBA All-Star
- NBA Rookie of the Year
- Compares favorably to the following NBA players: Larry Nance, Horace Grant, Kevin McHale, and Chris Bosh in Similarity Score
