Review:
Another strong season for Fubon was followed up by a pretty ho hum off season. They lost Jordan Clarkson, but added Rick Fox, Raymond Felton and retained James Jones. Free agency was mainly adding a bunch of vets as the team looks to take the next step this season. I think this is a team that has the two big pieces to be a threat for many years to come, but they need to start changing the rest of the pieces if they want to elevate into a big time contender moving forward.
Projected Lineup:
C Jiri Zidek
PF Jusuf Nurkic
SF Draymond Green
SG James Jones
PG Isiah Thomas
3rd Guard: Raymond Felton
3rd Post: Bill Cartwright
3rd Wing: Rick Fox
Summary:
Any team with Zeke running the show is in contention. This is a big strong physical team. This is basically a team running the I Formation in a Spread offensive world. This team is big, strong and slow and wants to beat you into submission. The bigs are old school bigs in Zidek and Nurkic who both are roughly the size of grizzly bears. Draymond Green is a jack of all trades at SF, but is also stronger and another bully type of player. SG is probabyl the biggest weakness on the team it is unclear who the starter will be, with Jordan Clarkson moving on in free agency. The team has good depth with players like Bill Cartwright, Rick Fox and Raymond Felton capable of playing big minutes and things going well. Any injuries to Isiah and this team will struggle a lot tho. With the posts aging, it may be time for the team to reconfigure a little bit, especailly if they start out slow.
Three Thoughts:
The Good: Zeke and Draymond are as well rounded of a duo in the league and instantly makes a team a playoff contender.
The Bad: SG is an open questionmark with no obvious solution there. James Jones is the best athelte/shooter/defender of the options so I went there.
The Ugly: Quickness. This is not a team that should be trying to get up and down despite a PG who is built to play uptempo. That is this team's achilles heel right now in the postseason teams can run them out of the gym.
Projection:
Projected Record: 46-36, 4th in Eurasia West, Tough out in the playoffs
Exceed projection if: Zeke goes off and has an MVP year which he is fully capable of
Does not meet projection if: The aging post plays and lack of athelticism cripples the team or the team decides they can still build around Zeke and Draymond long term and makes some moves to do so.
