Recently it was discovered that the Knicks kept a draft pick in a trade from a few seasons back with the San Francisco Warriors. The pick in question was the 2008 New York Knicks First Rounder. Since that time, the Knicks unknowingly broke trade rules by moving their 2009 New York Knicks First Rounder which in reality left them with no first in consecutive years. Due to this, the committee has decided that not only will the Knicks move the 2008 First Rounder to the San Francisco Warriors but the Knicks will also lose their first tradeable first to the league (which means no team gets it - consider it a inactive pick). The pick that the Knicks will lose is their 2011 New York Knicks First once it becomes available post draft. Once the draft pasts this will leave the Knicks with their 2010 New York Knicks First which sets things back on course to following the pick trading rules.

So to touch on this a bit more, I want to stress that this was not all intentional and I wish that I caught this 2 seasons ago when it happened. The committee discussed some different options for how to solve this and this is what we felt was the best course of action. This was nothing more than an oversight and while I know I've slipped up on messing up the details on trades in the past, I'll try to prevent these slip ups moving forward.
