Would be interested to hear a bit about the philosophies behind how people build their teams.
I consider myself a defensive coach. I have a much easier time putting together a good defense than a good offense. I like to build my defense around quickness, man-to-man defense, and guys who can create turnovers (blocks / steals)
On offense, I don't have as much a preferred style. I like guys who can get to the line often, and I like to have at least 3 if not 4 good shooters on the floor at all times.
Would be interested to hear others perspectives.

Trying to replicate something similar with Sam Jones, Jerry Sloan etc.

I think I'm a good game-planner but not-so-hot at roster building; I do usually get a superstar-less roster together that overachieves. I must be doing something right with four straight winning seasons.
Depth is key to me and I sub early; I want guys on the floor at all times who can contribute. I emphasize 3P% and try to defend against it well, so I'm usually high in the 3P% margin rankings - #1 last season. I play heavy help defense so quick guys who can cover a range of players are what I want, especially at SF. We've been a smallish team at C/PF for the past few seasons and it's worked ok but would like to find dominator down low at some point. At SF/SG we were really tall last season, however, and I'm going to emphasize that from now on. Oh and I try to have ball-handlers everywhere so I can run motion.
