I feel like LAL gave up a lot to get Barry.
I'd have thought at most it would take Kristap + One of (Mikan/Mel Swap or the Pick Swap).
I think both was too much and a misuse of assets for LAL.
Easy to see why Vancouver made this move.

I just don't get what happened here. LA made a smart move by adding KP and eliminating the risk of Russell walking away because they weren't good this year. The obvious move would've been to move Mikan for another young piece to build around with Porzingis.
But trading George Mikan, Kristap Porzingis (the better rookie of the two traded here), the best pick in the deal and another future pick in return for a worse rookie, a worse pick, and having to take on the remaining $66150000 of a clearly declining 31 year old Mel Daniels that Cairo and Vancouver have tried to move all season just doesn't make sense.
If you like Barry over KP then that's fair but you could've easily gotten some type of swap done with a lot more going for you I think, especially with how much Vancouver loves Porzingis. I talk to LA a lot so this isn't me trying to pile onto him but this is definitely a disappointing deal.

Anytime you can get the 3rd best player in a deal while sending the best and 2nd best AND mortgaging your future, you do it! Mikan is merely going to turn into a few more picks for Vancouver (after all, Bynum is going to resign most likely), so the net haul for them is a measly package of Porzingis, the two picks LAL sent, and either Mikan or picks/talent. Oh, and LAL also takes in the uber talented Mel Daniels on a very cap friendly contract that will be movable. After all, it only took Cairo a few seasons to move Mel.
Good trade for both teams!

Trades like this hurt the integrity of the league. I'd like to see the committee step in here and force the sides to rebalance the trade, as well as discipline both GMs. The veteran GM in this deal could have easily made this deal more reasonable and still made his team better, but opted to be greedy and take advantage of a GM who clearly wasn't seeing things properly (sorry to pile on LA - just can't see the reasoning here).
