Larry Nance(#22)Height: 6-10 Weight: 205 lbs. Position: Power Forward Born: February 12, 1959 in Anderson, South Carolina Age Drafted: 22 College: Clemson University Source: Basketball Reference |
Strengths
One of the elite dunkers and shot blockers (2.2 per game) of all time. Nance was a lithe and athletic PF who can jump like an explosive guard and is quick enough to guard inside and outside. That quickness also showed up in averaging almost a steal per game (0.9) for his career. A good but not exceptional scorer (17ppg for career) Nance excells in transition and pick n rolls to the basket or pops to the mid range game where he has a nice touch out to 17 feet and shot a career .755 from the line. One of the keys to his scoring was being hyper efficient shooting .546 from the floor for his career. Defensively he can be overpowered due to his smaller frame (205 lbs) but plays excellent positional defense. A good offensive rebounder but not great 2.5 per game. Both his BPG and career FG% rank 18th all time.
Weaknesses
As mentioned above not an elite rebounder putting up only 8 rpg and never averaged 10rpg. Didn't get to the line a ton for a big (4 a game). Although strong for his frame his lack of size does equate to a lack of strength against bigger players he can get overpowered. No three point range to speak of (.145). Despite quickness is not skilled enough to be a SF.
Notes
3 Time All Star. 3 Time All Defensive Team (1 first and 2 second team selections). Draft first round, pick 20 in 1981 NBA Draft.
